USA routes Germany 9 - 3 in game one
| JP Beilstein leads Team USA with four points in game one action as USA wins their first game in round robin play
BRATISLAVA, Slovakia – JP Beilsten (LA PAMA Cyclones) notched three goals and added an assist as the U.S. InLine National Team defeated Germany, 9-3, here today in its first game at the 2008 International Ice Hockey Federation InLine World Championship.
"This was a great start for our team," said Darren Turcotte, head coach of Team USA. "We have a lot of new players and a very young team, so the win helps us settle in and hopefully we will continue getting better as the tournament goes on."
Beilsten kicked off the scoring with a goal at the 2:23 mark of the first period after he picked up the puck at center ice, streaked past a defender and fired the puck past netminder Thomas Ower. Just one minute later, Germany tied things up off of the stick of Michael Wolf. At 7:13, Beilsten struck again, this time shorthanded to give the U.S. a 2-1 lead.
In the second frame, Dan Comrie (Mission Mulisha) and Kyle Gouge each tallied goals to put Team USA ahead, 4-1. Gouge tapped the puck past Ower after a back-door pass from Steven Oleksy with Team USA on the power play. Germany answered back to cut the deficit in half at 6:20. Beilsten completed his hat trick with a slap shot from the middle point to close out the scoring in the second with Team USA ahead, 5-2.
Germany tallied first in the third period on the power play, with Wolf potting his second goal of the game. Defenseman Lee Sweatt (Team Mission Syndicate NARCh 2007 champions)helped Team USA regain its three-goal advantage after he converted a pass from Pat Lee (Team Mission Syndicate 2007 NARCh champions) at 10:23, making the score 6-3.
In the final stanza, netminder Jamie Bufalino(Team Mission Syndicate NARCh 2007 champions) shut down the German attack and the U.S. notched three more goals to seal the 9-3 victory.
The U.S. InLine National Team will return to action tomorrow as it takes on Finland at noon EDT.
NOTES: JP Beilsten leads Team USA with four points (3-1) through one game, while Kyle Gouge is second on the list with two points (2-0) ... Shots on goal and saves were not made available for this game ... Tim Graham is the assistant coach for Team USA ...
