Buffalo – Night One Wrapped Up

After a casual red-eye to Newark followed by an hour and a half layover this morning Itan and me finally made it to Buffalo.

With this weekends Buffalo Qualifier taking place in a four-floor building (3 sheets of ice and 1 roller rink) there is nonstop traffic in and out of the rink and the softball fields right outside only add to the movement. Each Squirt team played their first two round robin games tonight and there was one Bantam game to top it all off.

Through the first two games of the preliminary round in the Squirt division a few teams really pulled ahead as the front-runners for this weekends Gold bracket. Hailing from this years’ NARCh Finals host city, the Mississauga Mission Rattlers tallied 18 goals for and only 4 goals against in their first two games with goals and assists coming from every skater on the floor. The Butler Cobras Blue also pulled ahead as an early favorite defeating the Pittsburgh Bandits AA 6-2 in the opening game of the tournament and then beating the Buffalo Warriors 7-0 a few hours later. The Pittsburgh Bandits A and the Steel City Snipers played a real back and forth game that ended in a 4-4 tie when the Bandits tied it up with only 1:04 remaining in the second period. As the night continued to unfold that held up to be the closest game of the night.

We’re packing up for the night and heading back to the hotel to try and get a few hours of rest but we’re looking forward to a full day of Peewee, Bantam, and Midget action kicking off nice and early. We’ll see you in the morning and be sure to check back throughout the weekend for all scores and updates from Buffalo!
