Saturday Sunset Update – Playoffs Get Rolling

A little more than half way through the weekend and games have been tight the whole time. I’ll breakdown each division a bit in this blog:

For this sunny weekend in SoCal, the atom division is composed of 8 teams: AKS 04, AKS 05, Anarchy, Notion, San Diego Rockets 04, San Diego Rockets 05, SJC Uprising, and the Tour Rebels. From their very first game of the tournament, Anarchy, and both San Diego Rockets teams immediately pulled away from the pack netting 12 goals and earning their first win of the weekend. Both Anarchy and the San Diego Rockets 04 team continued their winning ways throughout the remainder of the round robin portion of the tournament going 3-0 to earn the second and third seeds for playoffs. The AKS 04’s also came out hungry and defeated SJC Uprising by a final score of 5-1. They similarly went 3-0 through pool play and earned that prestigious first seed with only 3 goals against. AKS 04, Anarchy, and the San Diego Rockets look to carry on with their winning ways when playoffs start nice and early tomorrow morning.

One team prevailed quickly as the favorites in the Mite division. The HB Militia went 3-0 through their round robin play with 26 goals for only 2 against. Aside from the HB Militia tearing through the division, there were many well-matched games settled by one or two goals. The Tour Rebels and AKS 04’s played a tight one settling with AKS edging out the win 6-5 in a game that came down to the wire to kick start their weekends.

The Squirt division is made up of 13 teams all hailing from the surrounding Southern California area and 1 team from Las Vegas. The Alkali High Rollers 00 tore through their first three games winning them 8-0, 8-0, and 9-1 earning them the number one seed in the division. Closely trailing the High Rollers 00 the Tour Rebels and HB Militia Battalion 11 also went 3-0 earning second and third seeds respectively and are headed into playoffs with momentum.

The Peewee division was CLOSE. After the round robin games finalized a few shootouts had to be scheduled to figure out the seeding. Revision Vanquish 99 and WC Warriors 98 are scheduled to meet at 8:20 tomorrow morning to determine the first and second seeds in the division. The Tour Mudcats came in a close third determined only by goals against.

Bantams is one of our biggest divisions this weekend with 18 teams total and 6 teams going into the silver, gold, and platinum brackets. Team Alkali and the Sith Lords established themselves as the offensive powerhouses each finding the back of the net 22 times through their first 3 games earning them the number one and number two seeds in the platinum playoff bracket.

The importance of goals against in tournament hockey cannott be stressed enough. It can take you from being a top seed in the gold or platinum bracket to a middle seed in silver, or in more favorable cases, the complete opposite. Be sure to check back in at the end of the night for playoff updates from a few of the younger divisions, Midgets and Juniors updates, and final seeding for Men’s and Men’s Platinum/Pro.
